Katie Mitchell

Director

responsible for CO adoptions and fundraising/event management

Katie has been a dog person since she was born.  Her family's favorite childhood picture is of Katie snuggled up to the family pup taking a nap at about 1 year of age.  Growing up, her family always had labs, but when she got old enough, she knew she wanted an adopted dog.  Katie's first dog, Moxi, was a mix of who knows what, but many suggested she had some pointer in her (which we can tell by her drive towards bunnies and squirrels).

After wanting a career change, Katie became involved with the ASPCA and worked full time with the Field Investigations and Response Team.  With the team, she saw the worst conditions imaginable for animals, but also saw them come out the other side as super happy and snuggly pups.  She was reminded on a regular basis how resilient animals are, and she wanted to become more involved locally with a rescue.  One afternoon when she was getting her haircut, Emily told her about APW GSP rescue and asked if she was interested.  It was a perfect match.

Soon after that, Katie became known as the 'mix queen'.  She fostered her first dog for APW and failed after 24 hours, but who couldn't fall in love with Jerry!  Katie works in IT for Centura Health and is married to a wonderful man, Rob'e.  When she's not working or recusing dogs, she likes to snowboard, play football, socialize with friends, and travel.  She lives at home with her husband and two puppers and can't wait until she buys a house with a larger yard to be able to have even more fosters around!
